Nicole Biewenga
Designer Developer
My interdisciplinary practice centers on the need for critical perspectives on the social equity of hospitality development, and the opportunity for research, art and architecture to serve as activism in this industry. My experience has spanned over a decade in the service industry, professional practice in architecture, as well as academia and state funded research. This work is deeply rooted in decolonial methodologies that offer insight into the long history of the tourism industry, with the aim to impact tangible, community led change.
research
design.
We approach design as an act of research, and research as an act of design. Each project poses a new opportunity to delve into the synergy between learning and producing work in dialogue with this process of creative exploration.
consulting
entrepreneurship.
We do not accept the binary of business and art, understanding that we cannot approach the systems we operate within with criticality and with desire for change, without understanding how to strategically operate within these current systems. We navigate this territory in our own practice, and we work as consultants for mission driven startups. We share what we have learned from our own entrepreneurialism and seek alignment to collaborate.
